Offering Gottman Method couples counselling in Wangaratta and EMDR & equine-assisted therapy in Porepunkah
Relationships can be deeply rewarding, but also deeply challenging—especially during major life transitions or when personal struggles place strain on a partnership. In my couples counselling, I draw on the Gottman Method to support couples facing issues such as infidelity, intimacy concerns, and the complexities of stepfamily life.
I also work with couples navigating the ripple effects of PTSD, childhood trauma, addictions, and mental health challenges, helping them understand how these experiences affect emotional connection and communication. Through a tailored, evidence-based approach, I assist partners in rebuilding trust, improving communication during conflict, and creating deeper intimacy and lasting connection.
Separation is one of the most emotionally complex and challenging times in a couple’s life. In my Wangaratta practice, I support couples as they navigate the early logistics of separation—such as how and when to talk with children, decisions about living arrangements, and the creation of clear, child-focused parenting plans.
Counselling also provides a safe space to communicate with respect and reduce unnecessary conflict, even when emotions are running high or needs differ. Whether you’re only beginning to consider separation or are already moving through its early stages, I offer separation counselling to help you manage this transition with clarity, care, and dignity.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps individuals process and resolve distressing memories, trauma, PTSD, and emotional overwhelm. This approach supports healing by targeting the way difficult experiences are stored in the brain and body, allowing clients to feel more grounded, safe, and in control.
At Connection Matters Counselling, EMDR sessions are offered in Porepunkah, either in a calm, private cottage setting or in a unique, nature-based environment enhanced by the presence of horses. This flexibility makes EMDR a supportive option for people from across North East Victoria—including Wangaratta, Bright, Myrtleford, and Albury–Wodonga.
Equine-assisted psychotherapy offers a unique, experiential approach to therapy, with sessions taking place alongside horses in a peaceful natural setting. Grounded in trauma-informed principles, this approach supports emotional regulation, self-awareness, and nervous system healing—without the need for riding.
At Connection Matters Counselling in Porepunkah, equine-assisted therapy can also complement other approaches such as EMDR and is especially supportive for individuals seeking new ways to understand themselves and their relationships. I welcome clients from across North East Victoria, including but not limited to Wangaratta, Bright, Myrtleford, and Albury–Wodonga.
I acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of the lands; they are the first nations of the earth, waterways and skies where we live, work, play and learn.
I also recognise and celebrate the continuing wisdom and insight of indigenous health practice and humbly hold the deepest respect for their harmonious relationship with the natural world.
