Affair recovery private couples intensive

Affair Recovery Couples Intensive

1 Day Private Couples Therapy Intensive on crisis stablisiation after betrayal. A focused alternative to weekly couples counselling.

After an affair is discovered, most couples feel overwhelmed, stuck, and unsure how to move forward.

Without clear guidance, this period can stretch on for months and even years, conversations go in circles, emotions escalate and attempts to repair often lead to further disconnection.

Research and clinical evidence show that most couples require structured, guided support to recover from betrayal.

This intensive provides a safe, guided framework to begin repair, helping you stabilise the relationship, communicate effectively, and move forward without causing further damage.

This couples therapy intensive is offered in Wangaratta, Porepunkah, North East Victoria and surrounding areas, and is suitable for couples travelling from Albury-Wodonga, Melbourne and interstate.

Why Affair Recovery Requires Structured Support

After betrayal, couples often:

  • Have repeated conversations that escalate quickly
  • Get stuck in cycles of questioning, defensiveness, and shutdown
  • Feel unable to move forward despite talking about it for months

Research and clinical evidence show that affair recovery and infidelity counselling are significantly more effective with structured therapeutic support, rather than unstructured conversations at home.

This intensive helps you:

  • Stabilise the crisis after betrayal
  • Understand what happened without re-traumatising each other
  • Begin rebuilding emotional safety and trust

What You’ll Gain from This Affair Recovery Intensive

By the end of the day, you will:

  • Understand your conflict cycle (why you keep getting stuck)
  • Learn how to identify and stop the Four Horsemen (criticism, defensiveness, contempt, stonewalling)
  • Recognise when you or your partner is becoming emotionally flooded and how to manage it to reduce damage to the relationship
  • Use a clear, step-by-step method to have productive conversations
  • Understand the deeper needs and values driving your conflict
  • Create a practical plan for handling future disagreements

What is included:

Comprehensive Online Relationship Assessment

Prior to the intensive you will each complete the Gottman Relationship Checkup, a research-based assessment that provides insight into your unique relationship strengths and challenges.

Individual Sessions (One for Each Partner)

Each partner attends a 60-minute individual session prior to the intensive, you have the option to this session via telehealth or in person.

This allows:

  • Space to share your experience openly
  • Understanding of individual perspectives and history
  • Assessment of readiness and safety for joint work

This step ensures the intensive is tailored, appropriate, and effective.

Guided preparation:

You will receive structured templates prior to the intensive:

  • Impact statement (betrayed partner)
  • Accountability statement (partner who had the affair)

The Intensive Day:
A full-day, structured couples therapy experience (8:45am – 3:45pm), designed to stabilise the relationship and create clear direction following betrayal. Throughout the day, we will:

  • Review your Gottman Assessment results to provide clarity on your relationship dynamics
  • Establish a stabilisation and safety framework to reduce further harm
  • Facilitate a structured, guided discussion of the affair
  • Support the processing of emotional impact in a contained and constructive way
  • Guide accountability and deepen understanding between partners
  • Develop clear, practical agreements for moving forward
  • Identify next steps, whether that involves ongoing therapy, further intensives, or separation support

Breaks are thoughtfully integrated throughout the day to support focus, regulation, and integration.
