Affair & Betrayal Recovery Couples Intensive

A private one-day couples Intensive that centres on crisis stabilisation after betrayal

A Private One-Day Couples Intensive with a Certified Gottman Therapist

The discovery of an affair or significant betrayal can leave both partners unsure of what to do next.

You may be caught in repeated questions and painful conversations, struggling with intrusive thoughts and triggers, or moving between anger, grief, defensiveness, withdrawal and uncertainty about whether your relationship can recover.

The Affair & Betrayal Recovery Intensive provides a private, structured day to slow this process down, address what has happened with therapeutic support, and begin establishing greater emotional safety, understanding and direction.

Held at my private practice in Porepunkah, near Bright, the intensive gives you dedicated time away from the demands of everyday life to focus on what has happened and what you both need moving forward.

Is an Affair & Betrayal Recovery Intensive Right for Us?

An intensive may be helpful if you are:

  • struggling following the discovery or disclosure of an affair or significant betrayal
  • caught in repeated questioning, arguments or conversations about what happened
  • experiencing intrusive thoughts, triggers or difficulty feeling emotionally safe
  • struggling with trust, transparency or uncertainty about what information needs to be shared
  • finding that one partner needs to talk while the other becomes overwhelmed, defensive or shuts down
  • unsure how to begin rebuilding trust
  • wanting to understand the impact of the betrayal on each of you
  • trying to establish boundaries and agreements about what happens next
  • unsure whether the relationship can recover or what you want the future of the relationship to look like

You do not need to have decided whether you are staying together before attending.

The intensive is not about persuading you to remain in the relationship. It provides a structured space to begin addressing what has happened, understand what each of you needs and establish clearer next steps.

What Will We Work On?

Affair recovery is a process, and one intensive cannot resolve every aspect of a significant relationship betrayal.

The aim of the day is to help you establish a stronger foundation from which recovery, repair or clearer decision-making about your relationship can continue.

Depending on your circumstances, we may work on:

  • understanding the impact the betrayal has had on each partner
  • creating greater emotional safety and stability
  • managing emotional flooding, triggers and highly charged conversations
  • providing a structured way to discuss important aspects of what happened
  • helping the betrayed partner express the impact of the betrayal
  • supporting accountability and understanding from the partner responsible for the betrayal
  • identifying questions that need to be addressed and conversations that may need to continue
  • establishing agreements around transparency, boundaries and rebuilding trust
  • understanding what each partner needs in order to move forward
  • developing a clear plan for the next stage of recovery

The day is carefully structured so that difficult material can be addressed with therapeutic support rather than simply recreating the painful conversations you may already be having at home.

Your Affair & Betrayal Recovery Intensive Includes

Comprehensive Gottman Relationship Assessment

Before the intensive, you will both complete an online Gottman Relationship Assessment. The assessment provides detailed information about your relationship and helps me understand its strengths, areas of difficulty and the impact the betrayal is having before our intensive begins.

Individual Preparation Session for Each Partner

I meet individually with each partner for a 60-minute preparation session before the intensive. These sessions can be held online or face to face at my Wangaratta practice and give each of you an opportunity to share your perspective privately. They also allow me to understand what has happened, assess emotional safety and readiness for the intensive, and carefully plan how we approach the work during our day together.

Guided Preparation

Depending on your circumstances, I may provide structured preparation before the intensive to help organise what needs to be communicated during the day. This may include an Impact Statement for the betrayed partner and an Accountability Statement for the partner responsible for the betrayal.

This preparation allows us to approach difficult conversations thoughtfully rather than trying to work everything out in the moment.

Your Private Intensive Day

Your Affair & Betrayal Recovery Intensive is held at my private practice in Porepunkah, near Bright, from 8:45 am–3:45 pm. The entire day is dedicated to the two of you. There are no other couples and this is not a group program. Breaks are incorporated throughout the day to support emotional regulation, reflection and concentration.

Your Recovery Plan

Before you leave, we bring together what has emerged during the day and identify practical agreements and next steps. This may include agreements around transparency, boundaries and communication, as well as recommendations for further couples counselling or individual support where appropriate.

Not Sure Whether an Intensive Is Right for You?

Following an affair or betrayal, it can be particularly difficult to know what kind of support you need or whether an intensive is the right next step.

If you feel it would be helpful to have a chat first, I offer complimentary 15-minute Intensive Enquiry Calls on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This is an opportunity to briefly tell me what has happened, ask any questions you may have and understand more about the intensive and what to expect from the process.

You can select a time that works best for you through my online booking portal.

How Does Booking Work?

1. Book an optional Enquiry Call

If you have questions or aren't sure whether the intensive is appropriate for your circumstances, you are welcome to start with a complimentary 15-minute Intensive Enquiry Call. If you feel comfortable proceeding, you can skip this step.

2. Book Your Individual Preparation Sessions

Before booking your intensive, each partner will need to book their own 60-minute individual preparation session. When booking online, select “Individual Session – Preparation for Intensive.” These sessions can be held online or face to face at my Wangaratta practice.

3. Choose Your Intensive Date

Once you have booked both individual preparation sessions, you can select an available Tuesday after these sessions have taken place for your Affair & Betrayal Recovery Intensive in Porepunkah.

4. Complete Your Gottman Relationship Assessment and Preparation

You will receive information about completing your online Gottman Relationship Assessment prior to the intensive. Where appropriate, I will also provide your individual written preparation following our individual sessions.

5. Attend Your Affair & Betrayal Recovery Intensive

We meet in Porepunkah for your private intensive and spend the day working carefully through the areas identified during your preparation, with a focus on emotional safety, understanding, accountability, trust and establishing a direction forward.

What Happens After the Intensive?

Recovery following an affair or significant betrayal usually takes time. The intensive is designed to provide a substantial starting point and clear direction, rather than suggest that the impact of betrayal can be resolved in a single day.

At the end of the intensive, we will discuss what further support may be helpful for your relationship.

Some couples continue with couples counselling to work through the next stages of recovery, while others may need time to put what they have learned into practice before deciding what they need next.

Travelling for Your Intensive

Your Affair & Betrayal Recovery Intensive takes place in Porepunkah, approximately 10 minutes from Bright in Victoria's High Country.

Couples travel to the intensive from across North East Victoria, Melbourne and interstate.

For couples travelling from further away, being outside your usual environment can provide additional privacy and space away from work, family responsibilities and the everyday demands competing for your attention.

A Simple, Practical Schedule

Day Prior: Travel and settle into your accommodation.

Intensive Day: 8:45 am–3:45 pm.

After Your Intensive: Travel home or stay locally to give yourselves some time and space before returning to everyday life.

Bright and Porepunkah offer a wide range of accommodation, restaurants and quiet places to spend time following the intensive.

Fees, Booking & Cancellation Policy

The total fee for the Affair & Betrayal Recovery Intensive is $2,500, which includes both individual preparation sessions, the Gottman Relationship Assessment, guided preparation and your full-day intensive.

Each partner pays $250 when booking their individual preparation session. Together, these two payments form the $500 non-refundable deposit toward your Affair & Betrayal Recovery Intensive.

The remaining balance of $2,000 is due 14 days prior to your intensive.

Due to the nature of intensive therapy, your booking reserves a significant portion of clinical time, including preparation and the full-day intensive.

Rescheduling

You may request to reschedule your intensive with a minimum of 7 days' notice. In this case, your payments can be transferred to a future intensive date, subject to availability.

Requests to reschedule within 7 days of the scheduled intensive cannot be accommodated and will result in forfeiture of payments.

Acknowledgement

By proceeding with your booking, you acknowledge and agree to the above terms.
