Specialised Counselling for Paramedics, Police & Firefighters

The Unique Challenges of Emergency Services

Police, paramedics, firefighters, and emergency service staff often carry the weight of repeated exposure to crisis, trauma, and loss. Over time, this can lead to:

  • Sleep disturbances, hypervigilance, or nightmares
  • Emotional exhaustion and burnout
  • Feeling disconnected from family or community
  • Anxiety, irritability, or difficulty switching off after a shift

My approach integrates EMDR therapy, endorsed by the World Health Organisation for trauma recovery, and proven effective for PTSD and critical incident recovery, with equine-assisted psychotherapy (ground-based, no riding) to support emotional regulation, and resilience.

How Therapy Helps

When you’ve spent years on the frontline, it can feel like the weight of those experiences never leaves you. Therapy offers a way forward:

  • EMDR therapy helps your brain process and release the impact of critical incidents, so they stop replaying in your mind, allowing you to finally find calm and rest.

  • Equine-assisted psychotherapy creates a powerful, non-judgmental space with horses where you can ground yourself, regulate overwhelming stress, and reconnect with a sense of safety—especially when talking feels impossible.

  • Nature-based counselling gives you time away from the constant pressure, in a quiet, restorative environment that supports healing at a deeper level.

These approaches work together to help you feel lighter, more in control, and ready to reconnect with the parts of life that matter most.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Do I need to relive every incident for EMDR to work?

No—EMDR helps reprocess traumatic experiences without needing to describe every detail.

Q2: I’ve never worked with horses—do I need experience?

Not at all. Equine therapy sessions are ground-based and accessible for everyone.

Q3: Can I use my Emergency Services Health cover?

Yes, rebates may be available. Please see the Fees page for details.

Q5: What if I feel overwhelmed during a session?

Your safety and comfort always come first. Sessions move at your pace, and I’ll guide you through grounding and regulation strategies so you never feel pushed beyond what you can manage.
